Blots - a Gold Mine for Calligraphy Pens & Ink

About Us...

Blots

Blots

John Winstanley started Blots Pen & Ink Supplies in 1993 having become disillusioned working for large companies and having all his best ideas presented as someone else's. At first we printed and posted paper catalogues until in 1999 www.blotspens.co.uk emerged into what was then the early stirrings of e-commerce. Our aim was to offer a wide range of calligraphy pens and inks, a swift delivery and, if anything went wrong to sort it out quickly and without quibble. Today a paper catalogue is no longer printed and the nearly all transactions are online with payment by card or PayPal.

Along the way we started production of an affordable Iron Gall Ink, a ruling template, an acrylic pen & brush rest, wooden penholders and a range of dinky dips and bottle-steadies.

We stock pens from most of the current major manufacturers:- William Mitchell, Brause, Speedball, Leonardt & Manuscript as well as as the ever popular Pilot Parallel Pens. We hold a range of inks from the classic Higgins Eternal to the Ziller Inks which are gaining in popularity in the UK amongst those who have tried them. We try to hold good stocks so that posting is often on the same day. Help and advice is only a phone call away.
About Blots

About Blots

Occasionally someone will ring and ask for the Marketing Department, Accounts or Customer Services. I am them all. I manage the IT, the quality control, answer the phone, pack and post parcels. I also sweep up, turn out the lights and occasionally tidy up.

Mr Blot, as I am often addressed, is John Winstanley (pictured at Christmas 2015) who started Blots in 1993. I spent some years in enterprise units but eventually decided to build a unit at the bottom of my garden in 2002. So my daily commute is hardly arduous.

The stepping stones can be seen online on Apple and Google maps. It's amazing how much stuff you can get into a limited space. This is where your parcels originate. (I am only allowed the air conditioning when it's very hot)
Blots Woodshop

Blots Woodshop

The woodshop 2010 is where the range of wooden penholders and various dinky dips are made. I sometimes wonder if I will get in the door as there are so many machines in there. I do have to sweep up in here as there are so many wood chippings. The seats are there for when it all becomes too much or tea arrives from the house.
